Taner Armstrong, Bu Sa Bom (47631), is a Certified Instructor and 4th Dan (4th Degree Black Belt) in Soo Bahk Do. He began training in October 2005 at the age of five in Whitefish, Montana, under Andy Hamer Sa Bom Nim (41173). Over the next 15 years, Master Armstrong studied Soo Bahk Do along with basics in Tai Chi, Aikido, and MMA through his instructor and other martial artists. He achieved his 1st Dan at age 11, 2nd Dan at 14, and 3rd Dan at 17. In 2019, he moved to St. Cloud, Minnesota, to continue both his college education and martial arts training under Bill Nelson Sa Bom Nim (21420). In 2021, Master Armstrong tested for his 4th Dan at the Ko Dan Ja Shim Sa in Orlando, Florida—an intensive seven-day event led by Grandmaster H.C. Hwang—and was promoted six months later in Whitefish. 

Master Armstrong began assisting in classes at 14, earning his Jo Kyo (assistant instructor) certification, and later became a Kyo Sa (certified instructor) in 2020 in preparation for Ko Dan Ja. He has taught in both Whitefish and St. Cloud. As of July 2025, Master Armstrong took over as lead instructor of St. Cloud Soo Bahk Do, where he continues to teach and inspire students.

 Master Armstrong has been deeply involved in the Youth Leadership Program, having helped grow the program at the local, regional, national, and international levell, and serves on the Senior Advisory Team for the Youth Leader Program. His training and competition experience spans the U.S. and internationally and represented the U.S. as Youth Leader Representative in South Korea in 2023. He has also traveled all around the world to teach and train with Soo Bahk Do instructors all around, Master Armstrong incorporates his wealth of knowledge and experiences into his teaching. For him, Soo Bahk Do is more than self-defense—it is a path of personal growth, connection, and tradition, and he strives to pass those values on to every student he teaches.

Outside of his work in martial arts, Master Armstrong is a dedicated special education teacher with extensive experience supporting individuals of all ages and abilities. He has worked with students from early childhood through adulthood, developing individualized approaches to meet a wide range of learning, behavioral, and developmental needs. His background in special education deeply influences his teaching style in the dojang, allowing him to create an inclusive and supportive environment where all students can succeed. By combining his martial arts expertise with his professional training in special education, Master Armstrong brings a unique perspective to instruction that emphasizes patience, adaptability, and personal growth for every student.
